As this was to be my first open water dive for over a year, I insisted on following the rules and making it a check-dive. The DM took me through the base skills (buoyancy check, mask clear, mask remove/clear and reg recovery) before guiding us around. I had no problems with the skills and doing them made me feel a whole lot more comfortable.
We took the left-hand route, a slow descent over sand until we reached the main reef table, which is in good condition with plentiful life.
